Your Teachers
Alison West, Ph.D, ERYT, recently named one of the most influential Yoga teachers in America, is director of Yoga Union and the Yoga Union Backcare & Scoliosis Center. She is also the head of Yoga for NY, the organization that defeated NY State’s attempt to license teacher trainings and NYC’s attempt to impose a class tax on Yoga studios.
A published art historian before turning to Yoga, she established Yoga Union in 1996. It is home to both a strong and evolving alignment and flow program, as well as the largest backcare, herniation & scoliosis program in the world. Yoga Union offers rigorous 200/500 Hour Teacher Trainings, a 100-Hour Backcare & Scoliosis Certification program, as well as both Ropes & Slings and Chair Yoga Certification programs. Alison teaches internationally and will be leading a Backcare & Scoliosis training in Saudi Arabia next year and again in Doha, Qatar. Alison is grateful to the wonderful teachers who grace Yoga Union with their exceptional talent and inquisitive minds, and to the students who brighten the studio with their enthusiasm and hard work. Kaitlyn Hipple is a seasoned and thorough teacher whose joyful yet precise approach to alignment will spark your curiosity and offer you tools for self-inquiry, support, and transformation. Students have described her classes as “challenging yet calming.” Her thoughtful instruction emphasizes aligned integration of the body, helping students find physical, mental, and emotional balance. She is a graduate and core faculty member of Yoga Union's Teacher Trainings, including the Backcare and Scoliosis Certification Program. Having been mentored by Alison West extensively for eight years, she now mentors many teachers and teachers-in-training, helping them to develop depth and clarity in both their practice and teaching.
Kristen Woods' classes combine strength and ease while encouraging students to move with intention and fluidity. With her steady, progressive sequencing and clear, precise cueing, you will gain deeper anatomical & energetic awareness. Her teaching is most notably influenced by her time studying and practicing with Alison West of Yoga Union in NYC (300hr YTT & 100hr Backcare Certification) and Amy Matthews (Embodied Anatomy & Kinesiology: Bones & Ligaments Course). A practitioner since 2005 and a student of many teachers, Kristen enjoys weaving elements of vinyasa and alignment together to show how each style can compliment the other in a enlivening and dynamic way.
